Heat, smog, thunderstorms for Metro Atlanta on Friday

ATLANTA -- Hot weather continues to bake Metro Atlanta and the Southeastern states as everyone hustles to find a way to stay cool.

Continued hot and more humid weather spreading into Georgia from the Gulf Coast could bring pop-up thunderstorms to the area Friday afternoon into Friday evening. Any storms that come up will likely be slow-moving and drench the areas affected. Those storms would also likely have vivid lightning and small hail.

LOCAL PROFILE: Peachtrees of Atlanta, debunked

LOCAL PROFILE: Peachtrees of Atlanta, debunked

ATLANTA – In Georgia, the name Peachtree is pretty common, considering the state’s nickname, “The Peach State”. And, perhaps the most confusing thing, for out-of-towners, to learn is how to distinguish between the different ones.

Seemingly, everywhere one looks there is a Peachtree something. From schools, to streets, to stores the Peachtree is one of the most visible hallmarks in the metro area.

Even Native Atlantans get lost or confused about which Peachtree is which because a new Peachtree pops up every couple of years. So to help debunk their differences the “Where U Live” team has compiled a list of a couple.

Perhaps the most popular Peachtree of them all, Peachtree Street, is one of the most notable street names in the southern portion of the United States.  The street runs the entire span of Downtown Atlanta into the Buckhead neighborhood, where it turns into Peachtree Road.

Inside the house, officers found two men dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

Giddeons has been processed through the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. He has been charged with two counts of murder.

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The search for a newborn baby ended in Carrollton on Sunday. The woman who delivered the baby girl and her male friend are charged with Kidnapping and Cruelty to Children.

Cobb County police were led to a home on Cedar Drive in Carrollton where neighbors reported seeing a newborn baby. That's where Rebecca Mclarty, 39, of Mableton, was taken into custody and the baby girl was found safe.

The male suspect was originally identified as Christian Turner, 39, of Mableton. Around 6:30 p.m. Monday, he was arrested by the Cobb County Fugitive Squad and Carroll County Sheriff's deputies as he walked out of the woods near the home.

Police say Christian Turner was a false name; they have identified him as Scott Allen McDaniel, 42.
