Georgia Power offers new online program to customers

ATLANTA -- Georgia Power introduced a new tool on Thursday that the company hopes will help all customers manage energy costs online.

"My Power Usage" is found on GeorgiaPower.com, where customers can monitor energy they use. A spokesman for the company said that because the feature is online, it can be accessed from Georgia Power accounts at anytime.

"The New My Power Usage tool complements our suite of products and services, including energy audits and other money and energy-saving programs," Mike Hazelton, vice president of marketing said. "Introducing these tools and programs is just one of the ways we are adding value for our customers every day."

Other tools available to Georgia Power customers online are helpful videos, rebate information and links to make changes to service.

COBB COUNTY -- Cobb County Transit is now offering a way for commuters to track their buses in real time.

The transit system has introduced GoCCT, which gives riders the ability to access departure times of buses and search by bus stop. By using GoCCT, riders can better predict when their bus will arrive. Plus there are a number of ways to determine departures, including Web browsers, text messages, simple text formats, email and SMS.

With the new tool, Cobb County Transit hopes commuters can better organize their time by customizing GoCCT to meet their needs.

GoCCT features compatibility with browsers, operating systems and devices, real-time predictions, personalized alerts, compatibility with mobile HTML smartphones and a Google Maps service interface.

Formula: Graduation rate soars among Georgia high school students

Formula: Graduation rate soars among Georgia high school students

(WXIA) -- The number of students receiving diplomas is on a steady rise, as it jumped for a second time using a new formula.

For 2013, Matt Cardoza of the Georgia Department of Education reported, the graduation rate marked 67.4 percent in 2011, followed by 69.7 percent in 2012.  The new way to figure the graduation rate is based on the adjusted cohort rate, which is required by the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate defines the cohort based on when a student becomes a freshman, Cardoza said. The calculation takes the number of students who graduate within four years and includes adjustments for student transfers.

"I am very pleased that our graduation rate continues to increase, no matter how it is calculated," State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge said. "While our graduation rate is still far too low and we have much progress to be made, we are moving in the right direction."
