P!nk backup dancer graduated from Pebblebrook HS

MABLETON, Ga. -- Thousands of people will rock out at Philips Arena Friday night when P!nk takes the stage.

That includes the superstar singer's very talented backup dancers, one of whom happens to be from metro Atlanta.

Colt Prattes appeared in P!nk's music video for her hit song "Try," where he showed off some pretty incredible acrobatic skills.

"It's overwhelming, more than anything," the Pebblebrook High School graduate said of the opportunity to tour with P!nk. "I did a lot of Broadway shows before this, and it was just such a different experience, but 20,000 people in Philips Arena -- it's a lot, it's just overwhelming."

Prattes was a member of Pebblebrook's very selective performing arts magnet program.

"They really push you to be all that you can be," he said of the program, adding that it helped him achieve something beyond his wildest dreams -- dancing with P!nk.

Run a dash for water efficiency awareness

Run a dash for water efficiency awareness

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Cobb Water System staff is helping to hold a family-friendly 5K race, which they say will increase awareness of water conservation throughout Cobb County.

A spokesperson from Cobb County reported that all Cobb residents are invited to run the race, which has been named the Water Drop Dash 5K, which will also include a fun run for young kids. The dash is set for Saturday, March 16, at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell.

Along with the race, children can take part in activities and win prizes, while hanging out with mascots that will be there to kick off WaterSense Fix-A-Leak Week.

According to the Cobb spokesperson, water leaks count for more than one trillion gallons of water used in homes throughout the country each year. At the race, families wil be reminded to check plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems, which could increase water efficiency in homes and landscaping.

New floodplain maps available for Cobb residents

New floodplain maps available for Cobb residents

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Floodplain maps in Cobb County were recently updated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and all residents and property owners are encouraged to check out the new maps.

A Cobb County official said that some properties may now be in the Special Flood Hazard Area, where map revisions could enable residents and business owners to understand their current flood risk and be better informed of insurance options.

Those who have property in the floodplain should receive a notice from their lender, requiring them to have flood insurance. A lower, "preferred rate policy" is being offered through March 4.

Army sequestration cuts could affect 17,000 jobs in Georgia

Army sequestration cuts could affect 17,000 jobs in Georgia

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- If automatic budget cuts of sequestration go into effect, Georgia would see an impact on 17,163 jobs and lose $931 million from its economy, according to a statement from the U.S. Army.

Impacts on jobs include federal employee furloughs and layoffs, reductions in the contracted workforce because of reduced military investments and construction, and reductions in base operation support, reported an affiliate of the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the Washington Business Journal.

Economic impacts would be the result of sequestration and restrictions on new programs that come with the continuing resolution to fund the government, WBJ reported.
