AUSTELL, GA -- Six Flags Over Georgia announced Wednesday that they would be introducing a new rollercoaster for the 2011 season.
The new coaster, Dare Devil Dive, is the park's first "Eurofighter" style coaster, which features a 10-story vertical lift, and the first "beyond vertical" drop in the US. It marks the first new coaster at the Austell park since the opening of Goliath in 2006.
"We're excited to welcome Dare Devil Dive as our 11th roller coaster," said Melinda Ashcraft, Six Flags Park President. "This thrill ride features a vertical lift hill and beyond vertical first drop that our guests have never experienced before. It will be the perfect complement to an already stellar coaster lineup."
The coaster begins its journey with riders pulled nearly 100 feet up, before speeding down its first downhill at an angle that is actually beyond straight down at 52 mph.
The ride is designed by Germany's Gerstlauer Rides, creators of several rides at other Six Flags parks.
The new coaster is set to open Memorial Day weekend, 2011.
