ATLANTA -- Graduates of the Atlanta Opera's High School Opera Institute are getting ready to show off their amazing talent.

The students will perform arias and small ensemble pieces from some of opera's greatest works in a free spring concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5 at Morningside Presbyterian Church (1411 North Morningside Drive NE, Atlanta, 30306).

The High School Opera Institute (HSOI) is a training program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in music.

Participants in the eight-month program attend monthly workshops and vocal coachings on topics that include preparing and auditioning for a role, selecting a music school, characterization, diction and vocal technique. They are also required to attend performances and rehearsals of Atlanta Opera mainstage productions.

The workshops are taught by some of the leading professionals in the opera field, including Atlanta Opera chorus master Walter Huff.

This year, 11 Metro Atlanta students were selected to participate after completing a strenuous audition process:

* August Bair -- The Paideia School, Atlanta (Druid Hills)
* Carolyn Balkovetz -- Starr's Mill High School, Fayetteville
* Samuel Itskov -- Parkview High School, Lilburn
* Kaitlyn Johnson -- The Westminster School, Atlanta (Buckhead)
* Kate Kasmier -- Pebblebrook High School, Mableton
* Emory Mulick -- North Springs High School, Sandy Springs
* Ella Radcliff -- The Paideia School
* Justin Van Scyoc -- Pebblebrook High School
* Anne Stillwagon -- Walton High School, Marietta
* Becca White -- Pebblebrook High School
* Felicia Wilkins -- The Lovett School, Atlanta (Buckhead)

The HSOI is the only preparatory program of its kind offered by an opera company in the nation.
