Program at Cobb libraries helps children become better readers

Cobb County, GA --  Libraries in Cobb County were saved this week from having to totally shut down and wnd business. This is great because of a new program that is helping children to become better readers.

Cobb libraries have teamed up with Reading Education Assistance Dogs for another season of READing Paws programs, with several newly-trained dogs joining the team.

READing Paws programs are available throughout Cobb libraries.

The free children's program is a one-on-one storytime and is used to enhance children's love of reading and encourage literacy through the use of therapy animals. The child reads to a trained dog for 15 minute sessions that are monitored by a dog handler.

Through the process, handlers help develop reading pronunciation and comprehension.
