School district announces graduation schedule

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Graduation is right around the corner for high school seniors in Cobb County.

The school system has announced the graduation dates, times and venues for its high schools. Family members and friends who can't attend the actual ceremonies can purchase DVDs and, in most cases, watch live Web broadcasts of the events.

Visit cobbk12.org for information on how to watch the graduations or order DVDs.

Block party to celebrate public safety education

Block party to celebrate public safety education

AUSTELL, Ga. -- The Cobb County Department of Public Safety will hold a public safety education block party next weekend.

The fun will be held Saturday, Apr. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parkview Atlanta Apartments.

Cobb County Police and Fire personnel will be in attendance, as will 911 operators, animal control officers and members of the Community Emergency Response Team. There will be food, music and plenty of family-friendly fun.

The Parkview Atlanta Apartments complex is located at 360 Six Flags Drive in Austell.

Author to hold book signing at Caribou Coffee

ATLANTA -- A Mableton author will hold a book signing at a local coffeeshop next weekend.

Wayne E. Beyea is the author of The Treasure of Valcour Island. He will sign copies of the book Saturday, Apr. 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Caribou Coffee on Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

According to Beyea's publisher, Tate Publishing:

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts will stage Little Shop of Horrors later this month.

According to information from CCCEPA:

A doo-wop spoof of 1950s sci-fi disaster movies, "Little Shop of Horrors" follows the misadventures of Seymour, a down-and-out floral assistant who longs to get the girl of his dreams and escape life on skid row. He becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon, "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination.

Cobb Encore Series brings The Association to stage

Marietta, Ga. -- The hit 1960's band The Association will perform during the Encore Series on February 23 at the Cobb Civic Center. 

A spokesperson for Cobb County said the show starts at 8:00 p.m. The Civic Center is located at 548 Marietta Parkway. 

The Association has produced singles including "Windy" and "Along Comes Mary." The group has sold over 80 million albums, as well as earned six gold records and two platinum records. In 1967, the band became the first group to open a rock festival, now known as the historic Monterey Pop Festival.

Theatre Project to stage 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'

MABLETON, Ga. -- This spring's Theatre Project production will be a staging of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The community theater program will produce a junior version of the popular high-energy 1920's musical Apr. 19-21.

The Theatre Project is an educational outreach that brings a theatrical experience to young people in Cobb County. It is hosted by the Mable House Arts Center in Mableton. Past productions include Beauty and the Beast, Oliver!, Peter Pan and Seussical the Musical.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."
