WEEKEND EVENTS: Dralion, Summer Shade Festival and German Bierfest Atlanta | Events
ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.
This weekend is the first week for Cirque du Soleil’s new show, Dralion, the show fuses together 3000-year-old Chinese acrobatic arts and the Cirque du Soleil approach. The show’s name is derived from dragons which symbolize the East and the lion which symbolizing the West. Dralion tickets are available at Ticketmaster and the show will be held at Philips Arena. Philips Arena is located at One Philips Drive in Atlanta.
Woodruff Park will play host to the German Bierfest Atlanta on Saturday. This is the eighth festival of its type and it will celebrate the greatness of German beer in a family environment. The festival will feature German food, activities, music and fun. The festival will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Park Tavern is hosting the One Music Fest on Saturday starting at 4:00 p.m. The concert features artists like The Pharcyde, Anthony David and Foreign Exchange. Park Tavern will also be hosting the Crab and Shrimp Festival on Saturday. Park Tavern is located at 500 Tenth Street in Atlanta.
Rock and Roll legend, Kid Rock, is headlining a concert at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood on Sunday night. The concert will be headlined by Sheryl Crow. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster. Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood is located at 2002 Lakewood Avenue in Atlanta.
The annual Grant Park Summer Shade Festival will be held at Grant Park on Saturday. The Shade Festival will be held on roadways of Grant Park, which is Atlanta’s oldest park. The weekend will be full of events, artists, food and even a 5K. Grant Park is located at 840 Cherokee Avenue in Atlanta.
The Festival Peachtree Latino is the largest multicultural event in the State of Georgia and it will be held this Sunday at Piedmont Park. This event features hundreds of activities, arts and crafts and international foods. Piedmont Park is located at 400 Park Drive.
Corks and Forks will be held on Saturday, in conjunction with the Grant Park Shade Festival. Atlanta’s best chefs from local restaurants like Six Feet Under, Market and Abattior will be featuring their signature items, craft beers and wines. The festival will feature sit-down workshops on tasting and selection. Corks and Forks tickets are available through the Grant Park Conservancy. Grant Park is located at 840 Cherokee Avenue.
The Pigs and Peaches BBQ Festival will be held at Adams Park in Kennesaw on Friday. The event features a Backyard BBQ, Barbeque Cookoff and an anything Butt and Peach dessert contest. The festival will be held on Friday and Saturday. Adams Park is located at 2753 Watts Drive in Kennesaw.
The City of Kennesaw is hosting The Stranger for their popular open-air concert series. During this summer, the concert series featured "a tribute to legends" with musical acts honoring performers ranging from Elton John and Billy Joel to the Eagles and Doobie Brothers. The concert is free but you can reserve a table for $50 in front of the performance area.
Peachtree City will be hosting their annual Kidz Fest and Food Fest on Saturday, August 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. According to the Fayette Citizen, kids of all ages get to climb the Great Rock Wall, ride the Trackless Train, jump in the moon walks, run the Iron Man Obstacle Course, get in the money machine with free prizes, enjoy free entertainment including performances from a juggler, a magician, dancers and a lot more. Kidz Fest and Food Fest will take place at Shakerag Knoll at 191 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City. This event is sponsored by the Peachtree City Recreation and Special Events Department.
