Britt ES wins first Family-Friendly Partnership School Award

SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Three Georgia schools have been selected as the first-ever recipients of the Georgia Department of Education's Family-Friendly Partnership School Award.

W.C. Britt Elementary School in Snellville is the only metro Atlanta school to win the honor. The other two schools -- Morningside Elementary and Miller Elementary -- are in Houston County, south of Macon.

The Family-Friendly Partnership School Award is awarded to schools that offer exceptional customer service for Georgia families. They have easy-to-navigate websites, welcoming staff members, comfortable waiting areas, clear signage and engaging student work throughout their buildings.

"These schools are models for the entire state on how to engage families and make parents feel welcome from the moment they walk in the door," Georgia superintendent Dr. John Barge said in a statement. "We must find more ways to get parents involved in the education of their children, whether it's online or in person."

Britt, Morningside and Miller were selected from a pool of nine finalists, including Snellville Middle School, Harmony-Leland Elementary School in Mableton, Social Circle Primary School, Marbut Theme Elementary School in Lithonia, Teasley Middle School in Canton and Linwood Elementary School in Warner Robins.

Dr. Barge will visit the three winning schools in November to present their principals with plaques and welcome mats for their achievement.
