MABLETON, Ga. – Kids in Georgia have the chance to win cash prizes by taking part in a summer reading program.

The "Every Hero Has a Story" statewide initiative kicked off with a big event Monday at the South Cobb library in Mableton on Monday.

Kids lined up to check out their books and jump-start their summer reading program, while parents learned about the importance of saving for college.

The event featured child-friendly activities of games, storytelling, face painting, science experiences and a performance by Magician Bill Packard.

The program is designed to encourage kids to read throughout the summer and remind their parents and grandparents about the importance of saving for college.

Four regional winners will each win $1,529, and one grand prize winner will receive $5,529 for college. Additionally, the library of the individual grand prize winner will receive $1,529, and the four libraries of the regional winners will each receive $529.
