MABLETON: 'Suspicious person' shot by officer | News

MABLETON, Ga. (AP) - Cobb County authorities say they are investigating a shooting involving a police officer which left a man dead.

Authorities said officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Puckett Drive and Mableton Parkway around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities said a Cobb County police officer stopped a Volkswagen Passat in the area, and a man who was in the car got into a physical altercation with a Cobb County sheriff's deputy.

Cobb County police say it appeared the man was reaching for a weapon, and a second Cobb County police officer who arrived at the scene shot him.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Atlanta Medical Center, and he died around 2 a.m. Friday. He was identified as 34-year-old Matthew R. Murdock of Cumming.
