Same old story: Weekend roadwork on I-285, I-20

(WXIA) -- The weekend will be dry, weather-wise, but with sunshine comes roadwork.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will be on several roads throughout metro Atlanta. As always, drivers are asked to be cautious when traveling through work zones.

Look out for workers in these areas:

Cobb County
* Two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Atlanta Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement.
* Two Inner Loop lanes and one Outer Loop lane of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign installation.

(WXIA) -- Another weekend, another series of road projects -- it's a familiar tune in metro Atlanta.

Crews will be on Interstate 285 and other highways throughout the weekend. As always, all work is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Cobb/Fulton counties
* Two southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between South Cobb Drive and Bolton Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement.

DeKalb County
* Two northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Glenwood Road and Covington Highway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign work.

(WXIA) -- Last week's break from interstate roadwork was short-lived. The Georgia Department of Transportation said crews will be back on the roads this weekend.

Interstate 285, especially the portion above I-20, will be GDOT's main focus, as several projects are scheduled for that corridor.

As always, all work is weather-permitting.

Clayton/Fulton counties
* 1 Outer Loop lane of I-285 will be closed at I-75 south from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for resurfacing
* 1 outside lane of I-285 will be closed at I-85 north from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge repairs

Cobb County
* 2 northbound and 2 southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between South Cobb Drive and Paces Ferry Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement
* Pacing will occur at the I-285 Kennedy Interchange with I-75 overnight Saturday

3 found guilty, 1 acquitted in Mableton man's death


COBB COUNTY, Ga. – Three men were found guilty and another man was acquitted in the June 2013 death of a man in Mableton.

Johnathan Donald Anthony, 19; Antonio Shantwan Pass, 20; and Jekari Oshay Strozier, 21, were found guilty of murder and other charges on Wednesday. Kemonta Deandre Bonds, 22, was acquitted.

Officials say the defendants severely beat 36-year-old Joshua Chellew outside a convenience store on Mableton Parkway in the early morning hours of June 30, 2013.

Traffic improvements coming to south Cobb

MABLETON, Ga. -- Drivers in southern Cobb County will soon experience some much-needed relief on Floyd Road.

The Cobb Department of Transportation will hold ribbon cutting and ground breaking ceremonies for some traffic improvements on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. Both events will be at the Mable House.

The ribbon cutting is for the Floyd Road Widening Thoroughfare Improvements project, a $5.5 million initiative that widened and added sidewalks to the major Mableton street between Clay and Hicks roads.

The department's next scheduled project is Floyd Road Safety and Operational Improvements, which will span from Clay Road to Veterans Memorial Highway.

Mable House is located at 5239 Floyd Road. The public is invited to attend the events.
