Fulton County, Cobb County and APD Solutions Collaborate to Provide Homeownership
to Displaced Cobb Resident

Tonia Brower is literally “Home for the Holidays,” since closing on her new South Fulton home.  She purchased a formerly foreclosed home on Thursday, December 13, 2012, after it was completely rehabbed like new using funding through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).  The home is move-in ready with new appliances, fixtures and is overall a beautiful home. The closing was the result of a cooperative effort among Fulton County, its Development Partner APD Solutions and Cobb County to help Brower to obtain the home after her rental home in Cobb was claimed under eminent domain for road improvements.

SPECIAL REPORT: Drug traffickers operating Sandy Springs rehab center

11Alive News has learned that two metro Atlanta men who recently pled guilty to federal drug trafficking charges have been operating a Sandy Springs facility for recovering addicts for several years.

In October, federal prosecutors announced the indictment of Drew T. Green, Thomas Malone Jr. and eight others for drug trafficking, money laundering and conspiracy, alleging they were operating one of the largest synthetic drug cartels in the country.

Federal prosecutors say Green and Malone's company Nutragenomics sold millions of dollars worth of chemicals used to manufacture so-called designer drugs like synthetic marijuana and bath salts.

"I've come to a point where I refuse to use the term synthetic marijuana. It gives these poisons too much credence," said Lance Dyer whose son Dakota committed suicide after smoking a synthetic marijuana product named "Mr. Miyagi."

 "These drugs are literally poisons."

Body of baby found in Mableton woods

MABLETON, Ga. -- A 13-year-old Mableton girl had her first court appearance, charged with murder after the corpse of her newborn baby was found hidden in a shoebox.

Cobb County Police say the box with the infant's body was tucked under some leaves behind the Sierra Forest Apartments on Mableton Parkway.

Police still don't know if it was an effort to hide the baby, or to bury it out of remorse.  But, police say the baby was carried to term. It's still unclear who knew about the pregnancy.

"Apparently she gave birth with her mom and dad asleep next door in the same apartment, gave birth, did it all herself and then found the infant deceased when she woke up in the morning," said police spokesman Dana Pierce.
