Mableton Residents, Be Informed on Upcoming Development and Zoning Issues

Mableton, GA--  (Submitted by the Mableton Improvement Coalition)

Last fall, developers filed a zoning application for a mixed use development on 80 acres on Riverview Road (Z-28), north of Veterans Memorial Highway.  Because of the size of the development, the Cobb County process was delayed while the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority reviewed the plans.  The first hearing before the Planning Commission is expected to be February 1 at 9am.

New courthouse: Ahead of schedule, under budget

New courthouse: Ahead of schedule, under budget

Mableton, GA--(submitted by Cobb County Gov.)

Cobb County’s Superior Courts processes more than 18,000 civil and criminal cases each year. As the volume of cases in all county courts continues to grow, judges, prosecutors and clerks find themselves with insufficient space to do their jobs. Even jurors are faced with a lack of room. The new courthouse will provide them with that space.

SPLOST funds enabled the building of the new courthouse that combines all of the county’s court services on one campus and allow Juvenile Court to move to downtown Marietta. The new building will also provide state-of-the-art security and a larger jury assembly room to house jurors.

The building was sealed in mid-April, which is necessary to heat and cool the courthouse. The ribbon cutting took place in December. In January, the offices will be moved over to the new facility. The courts themselves will be moved first.

All of the county’s court services will be combined on one campus and Juvenile Court will be able to move to downtown Marietta.

The new building provides state-of-the-art security and a larger jury assembly room.
