DINNERS ON A DIME: Neighborhood Eats

MABLETON, Ga. – This week, Dinners on a Dime features favorite affordable, neighborhoods eats. Every Tuesday Where U Live will choose four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal, under $20.

Enjoy authentic Italian at Giovanni’s Restaurant on the East West Connector. This restaurant features specials like Chicken Piccata and Ravioli Stuffed with Lobster for under $15. Every meal is served with salad and garlic bread, consistent with the style of a classic Italian family dinner. All desserts are priced under $5 and their most expensive bottle of wine is $26. Bring your family out for an affordable Italian style dinner. Giovanni’s is located at 2495 East West Connector in Austell.

Locals love Gumbeaux’s: a Cajun Grill, the restaurant is known for their moderately priced authentic Cajun fare. The restaurant was established in 1994 and is family owned and operated.

WEST METRO – For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we’re compiling a list of Inexpensive Date Spots for you to take your special someone.

In today’s economy, it’s important to find companionship which, in our opinion, is the cheapest form of entertainment. However, it’s the springtime, and people like to get out every now and then. So, check out these suggestions for fun under $15.

Take your date on a trip to Sweetwater Creek State Park. On April 30, the park will hold a Twilight Canoe trip. This sunset ride is ranger-led and only open to adults who can swim and have some canoeing experience. $15 includes the canoe, paddle and PFD. The trip will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will return to shore around 9:00 p.m.

The Peter Chang story epitomizes the American Dream. Born and trained in China, served meals to the Chinese President, came to the United States to prepare meals in the Chinese Embassy. Since then he’s been hop-scotching around the South and mid-Atlantic states being a serial restaurateur, each to widespread critical acclaim.

Tuesday I was invited to a special tasting of Applebee’s Under 550 Calories menu. Making smart food choices is a priority to me right now as I’m training for my 4th half marathon and I’ve taken on a pretty lofty birthday goal. I recently shared my Restaurant Rules for eating out as there often aren’t many healthy, low calorie options; so when I got the invite I was curious to see how Applebee’s entrees measured up.
