COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Third, fifth and seventh grade students in Cobb County scored much higher than the national averages on this year's Iowa Tests of Basic Skills.

The Cobb County School District announced Thursday that its composite scores ranked in the 68th percentile for third graders, the 65th percentile for fifth graders and the 62nd percent for seventh graders.

"We did experience a dip in composite scores, but the more significant news from these 2012 ITBS results is that our students continue to perform very well in a national comparison," superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa said in a statement.

The ITBS is issued in several key academic areas, including reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. It allows students to compare their performances with those of their peers across the country.
