Registration for 2011 Cobb Senior Games in Progress

Cobb County, GA--  (submitted by Cobb Parks)  The Cobb County Senior Games is an annual event started in 1991 by Marietta Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with Cobb Senior Services, Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Smyrna Parks and Recreation, Brunswick Cedar Creek Lanes and Wellstar Health Place. Adults age 50 or older are eligible to participate. Registration for the Cobb County Senior Games is in progress through April 1st.

The purpose of the Cobb Senior Games is to provide adults 50 and older an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports competitions, meet new people, and become more aware of recreational opportunities available to them. Many of our athletes have become tough competitors in the Georgia Golden Games and have continued on to national competition. Events offered during the Senior Games include track and field, tennis, golf, swimming, billiards, bowling, bocce ball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, basketball free throw, checkers, clock golf, Frisbee and football throw, table tennis, and fishing. The program is kicked off with an Opening Ceremony Luncheon with entertainment. The grand finale is an Awards Picnic with barbecue and all the trimmings. The events take place at a variety of locations throughout Cobb County.

Cobb County, GA--  (submitted by Cobb Recreation)  Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will be hosting the Cobb Summer Camp Expo 2011 on Tuesday, March 8th.

This event will be held at the Cobb Civic Center from 11:00am-7:30pm. The Summer Camp Expo is your one-stop shop for summer camp programs for your children! There you will find information about day camps, art camps, church camps, overnight camps, performing art programs, tennis camps and much more. The admission is free and there will be door prizes!

Register for the free Walk Georgia program and Start Getting Fit

Cobb County, GA--  (submitted by Cobb Communications)  The successful fitness program Walk Georgia is back and residents are encouraged to participate and move more for healthier lives. 

Walk Georgia is a free eight-week program sponsored by University of Georgia/Cobb County Cooperative Extension. The program is designed to increase physical activity in a fun, community-oriented way. Participation is available as an individual or in teams of four. Participants can log exercise virtually at walkgeorgia.org and the program translates activities, such as aerobics classes, walking the dog and a pick-up game of basketball, into "miles." Through the online map, participants can electronically chart a course as they "walk" across Georgia, learning interesting facts about the counties visited.

This will be the only Walk Georgia program held this year. Online registration for the program is open Feb.

MARIETTA, GA -- Lace up those running shoes. Atlanta's newest 5K Walk & Run is looking for participants!

Whether you're young or old, beginner or expert, or even a canine, organizers of the Knockout Cancer 5K are looking for participants. On April 2nd, the 3.1 mile run & walk will circle Walton High School in Marietta, Ga.

"The event will bring the community together for a common goal, to raise money for charity.

Cobb Tennis Centers Form an Elementary School Tennis League This Spring

Cobb County, GA--  (submitted by Cobb parks and Rec)  Registration is underway and goes through Friday, February 18th. The fee to participate is $10.00 per player. Play begins Friday, March 25th. 

Cobb Tennis Centers offer a Cobb County Elementary School Tennis League Program for children to participate in a fun sport while sharing school spirit with classmates as they represent their school in tennis. Now in its second year, the league offers team competition for children in grades 2-5. They learn this life-long sport by playing games on size-appropriate courts and using specially designed tennis balls to help them play with control. Leagues are offered for beginner players through intermediate levels.
